Technical & Innovation Engineer 

As a member of our 123.ie SysOps team your role will span three key areas at 123.ie. You will support, improve & maintain the entire technology stack to ensure systems security, reliability & availability, including log analysis & monitoring & L2 operation of the service desk.

 As part of a wider project team, you will lead automated ITIL based release management to our 24x7 online application stack. Furthermore, you will be tasked to maintain, develop and improve those release and development processes, systems and infrastructure, with a focus on realistic automation  You will be empowered to research, innovate, design and implement technical projects from start to closure.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Innovate within the 123 SysOps function to drive realistic automation into software lifecycle, infrastructure & release activities
• Lead change to 24x7 production environments through ITIL based change management
• Resolve complex technical issues in infrastructure, platforms & Backoffice systems
• Provide critical analysis & implementation input on infrastructure design review sessions
• Follow all ITIL based procedures: incident, problem, change management etc.
• Maintain integrity of 24x7 technical architecture to agreed site reliability engineering principles
• Use your experience and skills to research, design and implement technical projects with minimal oversight
• Be able to clearly think through, communicate & participate in 123 SysOps strategy sessions
• Foster a working knowledge of infrastructure & platform security principles & innovate in this area
• Provide a second line of support to the 123 ServiceDesk.

 

Requirements:

• 5 years’ experience of success in a senior systems administration role or equivalent, including project delivery
• Demonstrable experience of supporting web application technologies (e.g. IIS, Wildfly, Apache or equivalent)
• 3+ years’ experience with release management in a 24x7, zero downtime, production environment
• Experience with infrastructure, platform & application monitoring & log analysis.
• Experience with public cloud environments (Azure, GCP)
• Fantastic scripting skills using PowerShell & Bash or equivalent.
• Successful automation experience
• A working knowledge of cloud-based infrastructure
• Enthusiasm! an eye for detail, a can-do attitude & someone willing to get stuck in and learn as they go
• Demonstrated ability in staying abreast of technical developments in the industry and aligning them with strategic IT objectives
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills both in office & remote

 

It’d be nice if you also have:

• Knowledge of Octopus Deploy, Jenkins and/or Azure Monitor & Analytics
• Experience using container technologies – Docker, Kubernetes etc
• ITIL Certification
• Knowledge of database languages: MariaDB, Sql Server etc
• An interest in evolving SysOps methods, tools and techniques
• An interest in developing technical security processes & previous experience of security infrastructure
• Google tools – GTM, Analytics, other
• Technical certifications
